THESEUS, a Comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation & Treatment Center, provides top quality, multi-specialty healthcare services to people facing functional training challenges, rehabilitation issues or other medical conditions at its own state-of-the-art premises on Syggrou Avenue. Accommodating both inpatient and outpatient needs, THESEUS has both the infrastructure and the expertise to manage all kinds of cases, be they nerve, musculoskeletal, respiratory tract and blood circulation-related, for optimal functional rehabilitation outcomes while ameliorating independence and improving quality of life.

Our ultramodern, multi-story facility with its 7,000sqm and five wards (58 beds in 30 rooms) has specially set-up areas for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, speech therapy, psychosocial support services along with orthopedics, neurology and internist practices as well as a fully functional ergometric center encompassing a therapy gym and rehab pool with a movable floor.

Our dedicated scientific staff and accredited therapists provide post-op rehabilitation services after major orthopedic operations, such as knee and hip arthroplasties, spondylosis, amputations, multiple fractures and sports trauma, at the Orthopedics Department.

Cerebrovascular and post-stroke patients, traumatic and acquired brain conditions, bone marrow disease, MS, polyneuropathies and other neurological disorders are treated at the Neurology Department, where we, moreover, see to the rehabilitation needs of post-Covid patients, people suffering from myopathies and chronic musculoskeletal disorders as well as patients requiring elaborate treatments.

Our scientific team consists of a PM&R and an Internist/ICU expert, an orthopedist, a neurologist and a clinical nutritionist, while consultant doctors, representing a wide range of medical specialties such as psychiatry, dermatology, geriatrics, urology and pneumonology, are also actively involved.

Our Comprehensive Treatment and Therapy Center has excellent nursing staff for individualized and specialized services round the clock. There is social worker and highly educated personnel for all types of treatment such as, for instance, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, hydrotherapists, speech therapists, a neuropsychologist, a psychologist, an ergophysiologist and rehabilitation trainers.

TREATMENTS

Recovery from sports injuries

For quick and accurate recovery after a sports injury, we apply treatment protocols, new techniques, innovative treatments combined with experience and physiotherapy, so that the professional or amateur athlete can return to their sporting activity as soon as possible.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy is the science that aims to promote health, prevent or compensate for the complications of a permanent disability and preserve patient’s functionality. It is aimed at people with mental, physical, developmental and / or emotional disorders and uses treatments to help individuals not only improve their basic motor functions and their reasoning abilities, but to compensate for the permanent loss of function.

THESEUS occupational therapists achieve this result by helping individuals become able to carry out activities that enhance their ability to participate in daily living activities or by modifying their physical environment in order to better support their participation.

The functionality of a person is restored through pleasant activities such as painting, playing, pottery, pastry, embroidery, textile work, etc. Α careful analysis and modification of the patient’s personal space is designed following a visit at their home.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy uses light, water, heat, electricity and various other mechanical and non-mechanical means to accelerate the process of tissue healing and pain reduction and edema.

At Theseus, our treatments are fully customized in accordance with each patient’s needs, based on detailed evaluation conducted by our scientific rehabilitation team.

Speech Therapy

Patients with brain damage (stroke, craniocerebral injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis) often present aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia, as well as swallowing and dysphagia disorders.

At THESEUS, we carry out a comprehensive assessment of speech (oral and written), voice, and chewing – swallowing disorders by formulating a personalized rehabilitation program for children and adults. Our goal is to minimize communication difficulties, which may be due to neurological, developmental or functional causes, while enhancing the patient’s skills and avoiding complications or worsening of neurological disorders.

Psychological Support

Psychological evaluation is a process that involves gathering information from many sources to draw conclusions about the cognitive and emotional functioning as well as the personality of a person. It is performed through the use of psychometric tools and contributes significantly to the diagnostic process and subsequent therapeutic planning.

The treatment program for neuropsychological evaluation and cognitive rehabilitation is aimed at people whose cognitive functions are impaired, mainly after neurological disorders.

Therapeutic Exercise

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on the theory that some of the body’s energy pathways related to the route of the main nerves or groups of neurons play an important role in the functioning of the human body. The mechanical stimulation performed by Theseus trained acupuncture physicians, aims to the restoration of this disturbed flow of energy. (Ministry of Health – Welfare and Social Insurance, Protocol No. Y7/ home/ 4270 / 25-6-96 and 574 / A4 / 1191 / 21-2-1980).

Therapeutic massage

Massaging is mainly aimed at facilitating the circulation of lymphatic fluid, but it also directly affects the nerve endings that lie beneath the surface of the skin. Theseus physical therapists are specialized in the relief of mastectomy edema (lymph node removal), high blood pressure (edema in the lower extremities) or long air travel, etc.

Athletic chiropractic care:
One of the most appropriate techniques to repair sports injuries, as it keeps the tissues in good shape, mobilizing all those involved in movement. These speeds up healing, increases elasticity and improves the range of motion. It can be applied before, during and after each match or training session.

Hydrotherapy – Therapeutic Pools

The beneficial effects of water exercise and hydrotherapy are well known. Their effectiveness is obvious in recovery, psychomotor rehabilitation and preservation of physical condition. At THESEUS we take advantage of the properties of water in combination with other hydrotherapeutic methods, such as kinesiotherapy or the use of whirlpool baths to improve and maintain the motion of stiff joints. Special therapeutic exercises are added to speed up the time of recovery and prevent complications.
