World PT Day takes place every year on 8 September. This year’s theme focuses on rehabilitation and Long COVID, and the role of physiotherapists in the treatment and management of people affected by Long COVID.
Fact: 1 in 10 of all Long COVID patients will exhibit symptoms for a period of 12 weeks or longer.
Long COVID is different for everyone, and rehabilitation for Long COVID must be tailored to the individual. Physiotherapists play a key role in delivering safe and effective rehabilitation that is fundamental to recovery after COVID.
The World Physiotherapy developed a range of posters and factsheets to share the message of how physiotherapists can help manage Long COVID symptoms.
As a science of Physiotherapy states treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient’s mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapy helps through physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness. World PT Day is observed to generate awareness about the crucial contribution physiotherapists make to society, enabling people to be mobile, well, and independent. The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy community. It is an opportunity to recognize the work that physiotherapists do for their patients and community. Using World PT Day as a focus, World Physiotherapy Day aims to support member organizations in their efforts to promote the profession and advance their expertise.
