Emotional intelligence is a form of social intelligence, which includes the ability to understand one’s own emotions as well as those of others, to distinguish them and use them as a guide for one’s thoughts and actions, that is, it is a value that is cultivated. Emotional intelligence has a positive effect on employee job satisfaction and can contribute, especially to healthcare organizations, to increasing their efficiency, upgrading professional practice, boosting employee job satisfaction, and improving the provision of health services.
Cognitive intelligence is not enough to achieve full efficiency, while the contribution of emotional intelligence is twofold, as individuals who have the ability to regulate their own emotions respond better to emotionally involved work, such as in health services. Emotional expression further not only does not constitute a brake but, on the contrary, increases the productivity levels of a company, as well as the professional satisfaction of employees.
The human factor has been weakened and made more vulnerable during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but at the same time it has been given an opportunity to regroup as a whole, to be better prepared for the next pandemic, but also to face the clear dawn of the new era of “digitalization” and the end of the era of “industrialization”. A few years ago we still placed great emphasis on IQ, a value that has been co-modified and weakened by the Internet, where almost anything you want or need to know can be found instantly and with complete, recent, documented information.
We need to go back to basics, to our human emotional intelligence, the so-called EQ, a core element of our human nature, as our most powerful weapon in our collective human approach to confront the onslaught of artificial intelligence, to embrace and interact with it. In this way, we will help humanity shape artificial intelligence for our harmonious coexistence, so that artificial intelligence is put at the service of humanity and not simply replaces us, that is, so that we can choose how we will live in this new digital world and not end up lagging behind.
Regarding the qualifications of a leader, the ability to recognize and understand personal moods, as well as to control their effect on others, to correctly identify and recognize their emotions and with the ability to understand their emotional world, as this skill of dealing with people according to their emotional reactions demonstrates a personality of intercultural sensitivity.
