George Patoulis highlights the link between Nutrition, Health and Tourism to students of the Postgraduate Department of Tourism Management of the School of Administrative, Economic & Social Sciences of the University of Crete

In the crowded hall of the Fili Town Hall, an important lecture was held by George Patoulis, President of the Athens Medical Association, President of ELITOUR and EDDYPPY on the topic: “Nutrition, Health and Tourism”. This event attracted a large number of listeners, among them students of the postgraduate department of Tourism Management of the Faculty of Administrative, Economic & Social Sciences of the P.A.D.A. – Technical University of Crete.

During the lecture, Mr Patoulis stressed the critical importance of the synergy between Nutrition, Health and Tourism, highlighting concepts such as Health Tourism, Wellness Tourism and Longevity. Furthermore, he mentioned the organization of the 1st Hybrid Global Wellness Economy Forum “From Opportunity to Successful Development – The Greek Case”, held by the Greek Health Tourism Council – Elitour, highlighting the global recognition of Greece as a Wellness destination.

The event was honoured with the presence of prominent personalities, including P. Kaldis, Rector of the University of West Attica, P. Kalantonis, Director of the Programme and Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Lifelong Learning, K. Panagiotakopoulou, Lecturer of the Postgraduate Programme, Lecturer of the Department of Wine, Vine and Beverage Sciences of the University of West Attica, N. Stavropoulos, administrative support and HOD of the postgraduate programme, A. Argyropoulos, General Secretary of the Municipality of Phyllis, and E. Liacou, Deputy Mayor of Administrative Services and Property and Procurement of the Municipality of Fyli.

The importance of the event was highlighted by the enthusiastic participation of the audience and the active interaction with the speaker, Mr Patoulis, underlining the role of information and education in promoting Health and Wellness Tourism in Greece. This initiative contributes to the promotion of Greece as a leading destination for Wellness Tourism, offering a rich tradition in Mediterranean nutrition and the historical heritage that Medical Science has given to the world. The lecture concluded with a lively discussion, during which attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and exchange views with Mr Patoulis, delving into issues related to health promotion through nutrition and tourism. The event demonstrated the potential and the prospect of integrating these sectors in the development of an integrated approach to health and well-being, both at national and international level.
